ALL ABOUT THE BOOM!

Homegrown alt-jazz band BOOM! Trio is thrilled to announce the launch of its debut album. The self-titled “BOOM! Trio” features seven tracks celebrating the members’ deep love for the outer rim of jazz where funk and soul inform all that they do.

BOOM! Trio formed in 2022 when three of Atlanta’s busiest musicians discovered they shared a common vocabulary acquired through growing up on the same music. Their musical alignment allowed them to flow seamlessly through an eclectic range of genres, writing and arranging a handful of new tunes at each rehearsal. The best cuts made the cut and now comprise the eponymous album. 

Founding members include saxophonist Mkolisi, drummer Robert Boone, Jr. and hybrid-guitarist Kelly McCarty. Vocalist Lavahi began joining the trio for performances and today has become an integral member of the group – BOOM! Trio ft. Lavahi.

As individuals, BOOM! Trio members have toured and performed with a wide range of artists, including: The Count Basie Orchestra, The Floozies, Larkin Poe, Angie Stone, Father John Misty, Kurt Elling, Marcus Roberts, The Shadowboxers, Dee Dee Bridgewater and many more.

2024 saw the group bouncing between festival gigs (West Georgia Jazz Fest, Yellow Daisy Fest, Buckhead’s Westside Stride Festival) to more intimate shows at The Balzer Theatre and Southern Feed Store. This culminated in a massive sold-out performance at The High Museum’s Jazz Fridays series with over 2000 attendees! After releasing their debut album in August, the group was then featured on major-market radio stations (WCLK, Atlanta; WDCB Chicago; WRTI, Philadelphia; KBEM,Minneapolis). 

2025 holds more wide-ranging gigs, such as: Dogwood Festival; Streets Alive Festival; Tunes in the Tombs Festival; Midtown Alliance’s Live After 5 series; Westside Stride; and Decatur Book Festival. Alongside performances at Atlanta’s stalwart venues Aisle 5, Eddie’s Attic, and Red Light Cafe, 2025 should prove to be another step forward for BOOM! Trio ft Lavahi.
